Porcelain and Zirconium Veneers

What Is Porcelain Tooth Veneer?

It is a dental veneer made using porcelain. It is used for covering the surface area of the original teeth. It is specially designed by taking patient-specific measurements and offers a natural dental image. It is the type of veneer that dentists and patients prefer most often. The most obvious reason for this is that it is the closest option to the natural appearance of the tooth. Types of structures supporting porcelain veneer are porcelain, metal or ceramic. Among the types of porcelain tooth veneers, these components are more preferred because of aesthetic concerns and because they are budget-friendly. For example, you can choose a full porcelain tooth veneer on the front teeth, while you can also choose metal-supported porcelain veneers on the invisible back and side teeth.

How Is Porcelain Veneer Performed?

First, the surface parts of the existing teeth are cleaned. In the process of cleaning plaque, the surface of the tooth is cleaned between 0.5 mm and 0.7 mm. The procedure is performed with local anesthesia. After the cleaning step, the mold stage is passed. Using CEREC technology, three-dimensional measurements and patterns of teeth are taken. These measurements are given to laboratories. The production of personalized porcelain veneers is completed within 15 days. During the 2-week waiting period, temporary tooth veneer is performed to support the patient’s eating and drinking functions. Temporary dental materials are placed using dental adhesive materials. When your permanent porcelain veneers are ready, the treatment is completed by gluing them in the same way. In the final stage, if necessary, your veneers are corrected and cut is done.

What Is Zirconium Dental Veneer?

Zirconium veneer, one of the dental veneer techniques, was developed later than porcelain veneer and has a much more aesthetic appearance and is more durable. As a result of the processing on pure zirconium, it is converted into a veneer material called zirconia ceramics. After the conversion process, the processing steps continue in the furnaces and are used alone without the need for metal support. Because it does not contain metal or similar materials in it, it is the best option compared to porcelain veneer in terms of much more aesthetic, safe, long-lasting and natural tooth appearance.

How Is Zirconium Veneer Performed?

As with other dental veneer techniques, it is applied in the same way. First, tooth cleaning, small corrections and sizing operations are performed. During the correction steps, the teeth are reduced from 0.5-0.7 mm. In this way, newly prepared zirconium veneers can be fully placed on the teeth. For the production of zirconium veneers that do not damage the overall structure of the tooth and the gums, the patient’s special tooth mold and size are taken and sent to the laboratory. Veneers developed in special laboratories and with CAD – CAM technology are sent to the dental clinic when they are ready. The choice of patient-specific tooth tone is also determined before production. In this way, the aesthetic image is fully provided. In the last step, zirconium tooth veneers are applied to the patient by taking support from adhesives.
