What Is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty surgery is one of the plastic surgery operations and covers the intervention performed in all kinds of bone – cartilage structures that prevent the aesthetics of the nose. Rhinoplasty surgery, also called nose surgery, is one of the most commonly used aesthetic initiatives. Rhinoplasty can usually be impaired by innate reasons, as well as by accident – impact – injuries that can occur later. For whatever reason, it is possible to get a proper nose job. In some individuals, rhinoplasty is performed due to essential conditions, while in some individuals it can also be performed in order to increase the aesthetic image. Some ailments that stand out among the essential conditions are problems that cause various respiratory ailments, such as the presence of nasal flesh, smooth breathing, and continuous oral breathing.
Regardless of the purpose and purpose of nose aesthetics, the main priority is to achieve the necessary aesthetic image without disturbing the normal functioning of respiratory functions. As part of the operation, there may be situations such as reshaping the nose, editing or changing its shape, correcting shape problems. A time period of 6 to 12 months is needed to achieve full results from rhinoplasty operations performed by specialist surgeons.
How Is Rhinoplasty Performed?
A doctor – patient interview is held. The patient expresses exactly how he should have a nose. Nose problems, if any, are rested. All necessary assays and investigations of the patient are carried out. After determining whether a person is suitable for rhinoplasty surgery, all profile photos of the patient’s nose are taken. Models are made on these photos, and the image of the nose after rhinoplasty surgery is shown to the patient. After the patient – physician has agreed, general anesthesia is applied to the patient. If the intervention indicates a very narrow area, local anesthesia is also sufficient, but in any case it is often recommended to perform it under general anesthesia. Even a slight speech and movement of the patient during the operation can put the operation at risk.
Although the total duration of the operation does not exceed 2 hours, it is usually enough to stay in the hospital for 1 day. The patient undergoing smaller operations is discharged on the evening of the same day. Rhinoplasty surgery is usually performed using two separate methods. One of them is open rhinoplasty. In this method, a fairly small surgical incision is made immediately from the intermediate compartment of the nostrils, and this incision is expanded to grow the doctor’s angle of view. Decal is made from a small incision. Open rhinoplasty is often preferred in patients with deformity of the nose and who have previously had rhinoplasty surgery. The most obvious advantage of open rhinoplasty is that the doctor’s field of view is quite wide. But since the healing phase is more problematic and longer than closed rhinoplasty, It is preferred only in essential cases. In closed rhinoplasty surgery, surgical cuts are located on the inside of the nostrils. In this way, while there are no problems with the surgical scar, the patient’s recovery phase is both more comfortable and completed shorter. Closed rhinoplasty is often preferred to eliminate smaller disfigurement problems.
TYPES OF RHINOPLASTY
- Reduction Rhinoplasty
The cartilage and bone in your nose are removed or rearranged during surgery to lower the size of your nasal structure. No skin is removed from your nose; once the operation is completed, the size of your nasal structure will automatically reduce or shrink.
- Augmentation Rhinoplasty
The surgeon will begin by rearranging the current structure of your nose and will most likely add materials to it in order to expand the size of the nose.
- Refinement Rhinoplasty
Refinement Rhinoplasty seeks to refine the tip of the nose in accordance with the expectations of patients who complain about the tip of their nose being too ‘pointy.’
- Reconstructive Rhinoplasty
The goal of reconstructive Rhinoplasty is to rebuild tissue that has been destroyed by an accident or malignancy.
Rhinoplasty Risks
It takes about 2-3 months for the swelling to descend, while it takes a much longer time, such as a few years for the nose to take its final shape. The changes that come to the fore in this process are millimeter melts and soft tissue changes in the cartilage. Cartilage changes cause the nose to shrink slightly and the cartilage support and fillings to weaken, while soft tissue changes vary depending on the skin type. If the edema after surgery in the nose with thick skin cannot be resolved by massage and other methods, this swelling can turn into permanent tissue, especially roughening the appearance of the tip of the nose. In thin-skinned noses, after surgery, the skin may stick to the underlying bone and cartilage tissues, creating unwanted indentations and protrusions.
Although everything necessary has been done after aesthetic nose surgery, complaints about inability to breathe may not go away or become obvious. The reason for this may be that the corrected curvature is repeated due to cartilage memory, or that the mucosa inside the nose is edema due to allergic or other reasons. In noses with obvious curvature or asymmetry, complete improvement may not be achieved due to soft tissue reservations and cartilage memory during the healing period, even if everything is corrected during surgery. This is especially the case in patients whose nose has been crooked since childhood. In cases where the nasal bones need to be broken, there are other risks associated with this crushing process. Symmetry can be difficult if a controlled fracture cannot be achieved.
Recovery Process After Surgery
Rhinoplasty surgery is a long process of healing, it takes patience and time. Rhinoplasty surgery can take a period of time ranging from 6 months to 2 years to heal. Although there is some excitement before rhinoplasty, It is usually comfortable after nose surgery.
After surgery, you can go home to be discharged from the hospital the next day. You should not eat or drink anything for 4-6 hours after nose surgery. You can wet your lips for dryness that may occur in your mouth. It is recommended to start eating slightly watery foods.
After nose surgery, there is not much pain. If there are complaints such as mild pain, nausea, vomiting, it can be controlled with medications. Resting your head high will reduce your troubles.
Aesthetic nose the first two days after surgery may be a slight bloody leak from the nose. You should spend the first two days after surgery resting. If you want the third day, you can return to your daily activities, which are not too tedious.
It is the most important rule to protect the nose from blows at the end of surgery and to protect the nose from severe injuries such as pinching, pulling, hand blowing for the first two months. In sneezing, which is a reflex and cannot be prevented, the mouth should be open. It is possible to take care of the inside of the nose with soft snot and sea water while breathing.
