What Is Ear Aesthetics?

Many individuals are born with impaired ear shapes. Deformities that exist in the ears can negatively affect a person’s social life and cause a person to experience a lack of self-confidence, causing psychological problems to occur. One of the study areas of plastic surgery techniques is the ears. As a result of surgical interventions, the existing shapes of the ears can be corrected, and the ear structure can still be brought in accordance with the person’s face –head ratio. The most commonly used method in surgical interventions for ear aesthetics is scoop ear surgery. But from time to time, there are also many ear aesthetics operations, such as shrinking large ears, making ears that are separated from the head more adjacent, separating ears that are very adjacent to the head in smoother proportions, eliminating deformities of the folds of the ear. In particular, the insufficient or excessive development of the Y-shaped folds that exist in the auricles, the flat y-fold, and the development of different angles can also occur as a problem of ear aesthetics. In such aesthetic problems, the inability of men to cut their hair short can occur as many psychological problems that can prevent women from collecting hair behind the ears. All possible ear aesthetic problems can be corrected in a short time with ear plastic surgery.

How Is Ear Aesthetics Performed?

Many of the operations related to ear aesthetics are performed under local anesthesia in adults, while general anesthesia is preferred in children. For example, scoop ear surgery, one of the most commonly used operations, can be performed with local anesthesia in adults. But general anesthesia can also be applied. The operation takes about 90-120 minutes. It is not possible to see the surgical scar from the front thanks to surgical cuts thrown from behind the ear. A surgical incision is made behind the ear and an attempt is made to cartilage tissue. Cartilage tissues are removed so that the proportional anomalies here can reach a smooth appearance. After the tissue removal step, correction, i.e. rasping, is applied to the cartilage tissue. At the rasping stage, the deformities are completely eliminated. The ears can be folded by pointing at the back without interfering with the general physiological structure of the ear. Permanent stitches are removed so that the fold does not reopen after surgery and ear aesthetics can be considered successful. After permanent stitches, skin stitches are also discarded.

The most common procedure in ear aesthetics surgery is scoop ear surgery, and the stitches thrown in this operation are not only in the structure that holds the ear. In addition, effective sutures are also used in determining the direction of cartilage structures. In this technique, which can guide cartilage structures, the concha structure of the ear is called the removal of cartilage tissues, as well as the direction of the cartilage that forms the folds of the ear is directed towards the back. Appropriate bandages are used to avoid bleeding after the operation. Although the surgical scar is quite light, it is not visible to the eye because it is located behind the ear. After 4 – 5 days after the operation, the bandages are removed. It is possible to feel mild pain until the bandages are removed. For this, pain medications are prescribed.

Ear Aesthetics Risks

Blood collection in the ear as a result of bleeding that can be seen after each operation can also be after ear aesthetics surgery. This can be easily noticed and corrected by emptying the blood with an injector. The possibility of developing an infection in cartilage tissue is very difficult. With the measures taken, this situation is further reduced. But if this condition occurs, it can disrupt the shape of the ear. A second operation may require cartilage transfer. Many patients already have some asymmetry before surgery. Sometimes, even if there are very few problems in one ear to ensure symmetry, ear surgery must be performed to ensure symmetry. Since both ears cannot be operated by being seen at the same time, it is quite difficult to ensure full symmetry. But when the auricle gets rid of its appearance, it becomes less visible in asymmetries.

Patients with Scoop ears are usually happier the closer the ear is to the head. But this condition gives the ears an unnatural image. For this reason, with ear aesthetics, the ears should be brought close enough to the head. In the first period after surgery, a more natural appearance occurs as the edema in the ears that look like this decreases. Sometimes 4-5 months after surgery, the stitches placed in the ear may try to come out by making acne. Contact your doctor if such a condition occurs. This area is cleaned with dressing and seams are taken. There’s nothing wrong with removing stitches. The ear has taken its new shape permanently.

Recovery Process After Surgery

The healing process of ear aesthetics, which is performed quite simply and quickly, takes a maximum of 1-2 weeks. At the end of this process, the appearance of the scoop ear is completely eliminated, and the person has ears that look natural and as they should be. The patient is discharged on the same day.

A shower can be taken without touching the water in the ear. 3 days after surgery, you can easily take a bath. However, the back of the ear should not be thoroughly dried and left absolutely wet. This bandage should remain attached for 3 days after surgery. After 3 days, this bandage is removed in the shower and it is recommended to use only at night (so that the ear does not fold when lying down) for 2 weeks.

A person who has surgery should be extremely careful. It is enough that he should not be traumatized by turning his/her head around and lying on his/her ears. The day after surgery, he can return to his daily life and social life or work. 1 Week – 10 days after surgery, stitches are removed for the incision made behind the ear.

The first day after surgery you may have a slight whining. A painkiller that is always used can be taken. After surgery, there may be swelling in the ear between 3-7 days, and the folds of the ear may appear as if they are a little decayed. This is an expected and extremely natural situation.
