What Is Breast Reduction Surgery?
How Is Breast Reduction Surgery Performed?
Breast reduction surgery is possible by removing both excess skin and yap tissue from large breasts. It is a surgical procedure for women aged 20 and over. It is essential to complete both the hormonal system and physical development. For this reason, it is not done to women under the age of 18 – 20. It is only performed under the age of 18 to 20 in cases where medical – emergency necessity is required. During the operation, both sedation and anesthesia drugs are given to the patient. Breast reduction surgery is completed in an average of 2 hours, and the operation time of much larger breasts can last up to 4 hours.
During breast reduction surgery, one of the methods of Lollipop incision or reverse t incision is preferred. Factors that will affect the determination of the technique vary according to various criteria, such as existing breast tissue, breast size ratio, skin condition and structure, position of the nipple, distance between the nipple and hip. In the Lollipop incision technique, the area where the nipple is cut circular and excess tissue is removed in the area. If necessary, the nipple is taken to a higher position. During this process, maximum care and attention are paid to ensure that the milk ducts are not destroyed. Then the process of closing the skin begins. In order for the healing process to go quickly and comfortably, a drain is placed in the skin closure step to ensure that the blood contained in the inner part can be easily emptied.
In the reverse T technique, an inverted
T-shaped surgical incision is positioned in the invisible lower area of the
breast. All excess breast tissue and fat are taken from this area. Again, steps
to change the position of the nipple are also performed if it is considered
necessary. In the same way, the operation site is closed by placing a drain so
that the blood does not collect under the skin. After breast reduction surgery,
patients are discharged after spending the first 24 hours in the hospital. The
scar breast reduction surgery are quite mild. But if the breast to be reduced
is too large, the surgical scar may be a little more pronounced.
TYPES OF BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY
- Liposuction for Breast Reduction
Liposuction for breast reduction is a less invasive technique with nearly imperceptible scars and long-term outcomes. This method, however, will only produce excellent results in a subset of people.
- Vertical or “Lollipop” Breast Reduction
The operation that allows for the removal of extra fat, skin, and breast tissue, the internal reshaping of the new smaller breast, and the lifting of the breast into a more youthful position. Furthermore, this technique requires two incision sites: one along the areola’s edge and another going vertically from the bottom of the areola to the inframammary fold, or the crease beneath the breast.
- Inverted-T or “Anchor” Breast Reduction
The method that entails three incisions: one along the areola’s edge, one vertically from the areola to the breast crease, and one along the crease beneath the breast.
Breast Reduction Surgery Risks
Although breast reduction surgery is very rare, there are some risks: there may be bleeding, infection, and temporary or permanent loss of sensation in the nipple. For plastic surgery professionals, the sewing stage is very important. In all operations, a lot of attention should be paid to the skin suture in order to remain the least possible permission. But unfortunately, everything is not under the control of our doctors. There are huge differences between people in wound healing. Some people’s wounds heal with almost no scars, but some people have reddened and fluffy scars. There are many treatments for reducing these scars, these treatments are applied.
Breast reduction surgery leaves noticeable scars, but these scars can be hidden in a bra or bikini. Breast-feeding function may be lost after surgery, as most of the milk ducts that come to the nipple are removed during surgery. After surgery, a surgical bra was worn, an elastic bandage was wrapped and a thin dressing was made. For the first few days, thin tubes can be placed on the edges of the chest to expel blood and accumulated fluids. For the first day or two, there may be slight pain when you cough and move. In the first week, you may feel this type of mild pain, but your plastic surgeon will give you painkillers for the pain.
Recovery Process After Surgery
During the first two days of breast reduction surgery, there may be a slight pain at a varying rate that differs depending on the person. These pain can be reduced and relieved with medications given by your doctor. The pain decreases from the third day and heals after 5 to 7 days.
After the operation, the patient is kept in the hospital overnight. Resistance stays plugged in for 3 days. At the end of the third day, the resistance is removed. After that, your one-and two-week checks begin. At the end of the second week, the stitches are removed. After this process, trace removal operations are performed. Efforts are made to destroy the permanence of scars.
After breast reduction operations, in which one or both breasts are reduced, you should not go to work or school for at least a week. Although the healing process varies from person to person, it should be noted that it is usually necessary to rest for two weeks.
Surgeon’s breast reduction surgery should be considered after their warnings with those that should be adhered to. Intensive physical mobility should be avoided for a month. After breast reduction surgery, it is normal for a person to feel sluggish and have chest pain.
When a full recovery occurs, women’s self-confidence will increase; the pain and problems they experience due to large breasts will disappear.
